Don't Come on my Sleigh wins over Rob is Wrong (aka Isle of Misfit Toys) in the finals of the Inaugural Jingle Balls Kickball Classic benefiting Ronald McDonald House Charities of Augusta and Toys for Tots. "Ball Busters" is our Tuesday Kickball champion, winning three games last night to be crowned league champion. It was clutch win after clutch win for this squad, with all of their games going down to the wire.
Despite their #5 seed, the "Ball Busters" were seen as a legitimate title threat after losing in the championship game last season. However, winning three games in a row is a tough feat for any team, and the fact they were able to do it was incredible.
In their first game of the evening the "Ball Busters" took on "Whiskey Kick" in the 4 vs 5 match up. It was a 4-4 tie heading into the last inning where eventually "Ball Busters" broke through with three runs in the top half on a couple of defensive miscues and some heads up base-running. In the bottom half of the inning their defense came out and shut things down, closing out with a 7-4 inning.
Next up for "Ball Busters" was the top ranked team from the regular season, "We've Got the Runs". Again it was a tight game throughout with the score tied at 2-2 through 4 innings. The "Ball Busters" went on to break the tie in the 5th with another run, followed by two more in the 6th to make it 5-2. Eventually the score would hold there with "Ball Busters" heading to the finals.
In the championship game "Ball Busters" met "My Pitches are Bad & Boujee" aftter winning a couple of one run games of their own.
This game turned out to be very similar, with "Ball Busters" coming out on top by the narrowest of margins in a thrilling 4-3 win. Clutch kicking was again the key for "Ball Busters", scoring multiple runs late in the 6th inning and shutting down any chance of a comeback in the 7th.
Congratulations to "Ball Busters" on the championship win! It is well deserved, especially after winning all three thrilling games!
In a weird game of sequels and rematches, "Don't Come on My Base" wins the Sunday Funday Fall 2017 Kickball Championship over "Sir Kix-A-Lot". They lost to Sir Kix A Lot in the Summer 17 season championship, to face them again for the Fall 2017 Championship. Plus, these two teams faced each other in the regular season on Oct. 15th with the exact same score in DCOMB beating SKAL 8-0. We will have to wait an see if these teams meet each other again at the Dec 16th Jingle Balls Kickball classic or back for more Sunday Funday in the Winter 2018 season.
View Don't Come on my Base Team Page"Sweep the Leg" is the latest Downtown Division champion following a pair of wins in last night's playoffs.
Their first game of the night was against the #4 "Side Sac". As expected "Sweep the Leg" took care of business notching a 6-1 win, though the game did remain tight before they broke things open with a 4-run 5th inning.
With their spot locked up for the championship game "Sweep the Leg" awaited their opponent. While they had hoped for a rematch with "I'm Kick James, Pitch!" to avenge an early season loss, it was "We Got the Runs" who prevailed with a 5-4 win. It didn't matter too much though, as "Sweep the Leg" had some unfinished business with them as well regarding an early playoff exit to this very team earlier this spring.
In the championship game it was defense that made the difference. "Sweep the Leg" got on the board early with a run in the first and two more in the third inning, all the while maintaining the shutout. Eventually they'd push it to a 5-0 lead after five innings. "We Got the Runs" didn't go down without a fight and picked up two runs in the sixth, but they weren't able to get any farther than that. In the end it was a 5-2 win for "Sweep the Leg".
Congratulations to "Sweep the Leg" on another successful season and getting back to the top of the podium!
"Rock Out With Our Balls Out" is our Midtown Division champion, finishing with a perfect 10-0 record! This band of indy players got off to a great start and never looked back, picking up win after win after win.
Much like the other division champs, their forte was defense, and it's often a sign of a great team. In fact, the most runs they allowed all season was 5, coming in their first game of the season.
In their first playoff game last night they took on "Unspaghettible", holding them to just 1 run en route to 3-1 victory. Their defense was great, and a couple of timely kicks led to their 3 runs. After the win, they awaited their championship game opponent.
That 2 vs 3 match up was between "One Kick Wonders" and "All About the Batmans". That game remained a close one until "One Kick Wonders" broke out on offense in the top of the last inning, scoring 4 insurance runs to add onto their 2-1 lead. That 6-1 scoreline would eventually be the final score.
In the championship game "Rock Out With Our Balls Out" once again showed their defensive prowess, holding "One Kick Wonders" to two runs. Offensively they'd tally 5 of their own, more than enough with the way their defense had been playing all season. In the end, it was a 5-2 finals win.
Congratulations to "Rock Out With Our Balls Out" on achieving perfection, and we hope to see them again next season!
"A Tribe Called Kick" is our Sunday kickball champion, hanging on to win with a 5-4 scoreline in the final. This after an 11-1 shellacking in the first round of the playoffs over "Deep Dish".
In the championship game both offenses got off to hot starts, picking up a couple of runs each and ending the first inning at 2-2. "A Tribe Called Kick" would continue that into the next three innings, picking up a run each time to increase their lead to 5-2, while their defense kicked in and played well. In a last ditch effort in the bottom of sixth "4th Base" put up a fight, scoring twice, but they were unable to completely fight back against the league's top team.
It was an incredibly successful season for our champs, finishing with a 9-1 record including the playoffs. They also managed a +37 point differential, both great feats for any team, let alone a rag-tag group of individuals. Their lone loss came early in the season to "4th Base", though that loss was avenged twice, once later in the season and of course in the championship game.
The championship win is a fitting end to their season after cruising atop the league standings for a while. Congratulations to "A Tribe Called Kick" on the great season!
Sunny Sunday for the last day of Gabrial kickball. Where my Pitches at, where all there and ready to get playing, even if it was I. The grass. Having fun, hustling and making plays, the entire team was involved.
Everyone kicked, crosses home between the two games, but even more impressive was there shut down defense. Nice playing and congrats on winning!
Just as it happened all season long, the upstart La Kickaracha kids rode some momentum from a Red Rubber softcore title straight to a dominating win over 2 Legit 2 Kick in the finals. Big kicks from Kieran, Mike (all 3 of them) and Anisa powered the offense, while the team continued to take the bunts away from opposing teams with laser beam throws to 1st. Great season guys! Get some rest and come out swinging in Winter!

View Alcoballics Team Page"On Tuesdays We Wear PINK!" is our Tuesday Kickball champion! They entered the playoffs as the favorite to win it all, but with six total teams, it wasn't a given they'd win anything.
As the top seed they had a first round bye before cruising to a 13-3 win over "Who Do We Appreciate?" in the second round of the playoffs. On the other side of the bracket "Ball Busters" held true to their #2 seed and narrowly defeated "Yellow From the Other Side" by the score of 10-9.
In the championship game things took a defensive shift, with the top two teams unable to get their offenses going. Instead it was the defenses that were dominant, making great plays all over the field. For "On Tuesdays We Wear PINK!", all it took was one offensive inning. They would score 3 runs in the bottom of the third, and from there their superb defense closed things out.
Overall "On Tuesdays We Wear PINK!" finished with an undefeated 9-0-1 record. That lone tie came in week again against the playoff team "We've Got the Runs". Further establishing their dominance this season is their +51 run differential, showing they are equally great on both sides of the ball.
Congratulations to "On Tuesdays We Wear PINK!" on the fantastic season, and we can't wait to see if they can defend their title!
Kick R 4 Kids came ready to play at 6:30 for their semifinal matchup, but unfortunately, their opponents didn't show. This didn't throw off the Kids' rhythm though. After a quick pit stop at Leny's, Kicks R 4 Kids were ready for their championship matchup against the Manhandlers. The game went back and forth for 7 innings, but a big sixth inning from the Kids put them ahead for good. They played great team defense throughout the night, but Ryan was a wall in center field and prevented an extra bases from being earned. Not to be outdone, Cam made some highlight reel plays from behind the plate. Between the two of them, the Manhandlers couldn't overcome their deficit. Special shoutout to Justin Host, the hostess with the mostess, for being team captain and organizing the team. Congrats Kicks R 4 Kids!
View Kicks R 4 Kids Team PageThis was one of the toughest games all year. With some of the tightest of calls (some would say they were the "wrong" calls, but semantics,) and the most daring of plays. It was however, by far one of the most enjoyable games of the year, with two of my favorite midcore teams duking it out. Alas, the kings of Red Rubber would not be stopped. The Violent Chubbies would reign supreme by taking it to extra innings to win 9-8. I guess the distraction worked Trevor!

View Kick and Morty Team Page"HUGH JASS PITCHES" is our Downtown Division champion after a narrow 3-2 championship game win. The win caps an impressive 8-1-1 record for the season.
It was a great run from start to finish, with "HUGH JASS PITCHES" starting the season off with back to back wins. They'd hit a bump in the road though, dropping their third game of the season to "Always a Bridesmaid" in a tough shutout loss. However, they regrouped and went on to be undefeated for the remainder of the season, closing out their last five games with a 4-0-1 record.
In the playoffs they took out "I'm Kick James Pitch" in the first round of the playoffs by the score of 6-3, securing their spot in the title game. On the other side of the bracket "We Got the Runs" also looked in control, winning by a comfortable 7-2 margin.
The championship game was a battle of two heavyweights, as the to two teams from the regular season faced off in an epic battle. Not only that, "We Got the Runs" was trying to make it back to back titles in the Downtown Division.
But, "HUGH JASS PITCHES" was just too good, holding a potent "We Got the Runs" offense to just 2 runs in the biggest game of the season. It was their greatest strength, never allowing more than 4 runs in any game this season. Even then, their opponent only scored 4 runs twice in 10 games.
Congratulations to "HUGH JASS PITCHES" on a great kickball season! Their defense was one of the best all season, and when push came to shove that is what led them to their championship.
"Our D Always Comes Ready to Play" is our newest Midtown Division champion, blowing out "2 Legit 2 Kick" in was expected to be an extremely close game. The previous meeting between the two ended in a one run nail-biter, but "Our D Always Comes Ready to Play" didn't put anything to chance. Instead, they posted 13 runs, en route to a 10 run victory.
Besides that one loss earlier this season to "2 Legit 2 Kick" they were undefeated, finishing the season with a 9-1 record. True to their name, defense was their strength. Not once did a team score more than three runs on them, shutting down some high-powered offenses. That includes 3 shutouts.
In the playoffs "Our D" met some stiff competition early, edging out the #3 "Pitch Don't Kill My Vibe" by the score of 2-1. As it turns out, that would be the more competitive game. "2 Legit 2 Kick" took care of business on their end in the first round with an 8-3 win, but may have used all of their mojo for the first game because in the championship it was all "Our D".
Congratulations to "Our D Always Comes Ready to Play" on the fantastic season, finishing with a very strong +43 point differential thanks in part to their incredible D. Well done!
Another season, another championship for Cool Runnings. Comprised of most of the midcore champs from Red Rubber, Cool Runnings proved again that they don't have many holes in the field, with great pitching from J.J., solid corner play from Adam and Red, and the lightning quick Jon behind the plate. Some gritty plays from sisters Katie and Erin helped out and the gamesmanship of "Fair" Blair and LIndsay put them over the top. Nice win champs!
View Cool Runnings Team PageThe "Camel Toe Pokes" are our latest Sunday night kickball champions! Overall they finished with an impressive 9-1 record, taking care of anyone that stood in their way. Our champs finished with a +48 point differential, far outpacing the rest of the league. That was thanks in part to their league-leading defense, which held opponents scoreless on three separate occasions this season.
In the playoffs "Camel Toe Pokes" continued their strong regular season play with a convincing 11-4 first round win over "Roy G Biv". In the other half of the bracket "Fire Hazard" cruised to a 9-1 win over "Team B" to ensure their championship game spot.
In the final last season's runner up, "Fire Hazard", was once again forced to play second fiddle thanks to the great play of "Camel Toe Pokes". The league's top defensive team was just too much to handle, allowing just three runs in the championship. That, along with picking up five runs, sealed the deal for "Camel Toe Pokes". Congratulations to them on a fantastic season!

With only a single win during the regular season to their name they managed to defy the odds and take the Softcore division title. It really goes to show that through hard work, dedication, and a drive to learn from one's past mistakes can have a huge impact down the road. There was never a point where they were down and they made very little mistakes. Their defense is what really won them the title. They made some phenomenal catches and even had some outs at first where the pitcher would kick it to the first baseman rather than throw it on a bunt. It was great to watch this team grow over the course of a season and eventually become champions. Excellent work everyone!!

And then they used their big leg Anthony to launch a ball into the outfield to secure the game winning run. Anthony told me after that he was playing the whole game on two charlie horses in both of his hamstrings. Hats off to him pushing so hard and sacrificing his body for the team. In the end though, the Chubbies were very business like in how they performed in the Championship game. Finding themselves in a bases loaded, no-out jam in the top of the 1st inning, the team calmly kept the damage to a minimum by only surrendering one run in that situation. In the bottom half of their inning, pitching extraordinaire and ring leader in the devious antics Trevor LaRowe predicted and calmly belted a 3 run homer to start off his 3 - 3, 5 RBI, 3 run night that all but sealed the deal for the Violent Chubbies. It was another strong season for "I'm Kick James, Pitch!!", notching a +51 run differential throughout the season. That didn't come without setbacks though. In the first game of the season they battled to a tough 2-1 win. Later on they'd battle to a 6-6 tie with " On Tuesdays We Wear PINK". But that would be the most runs they allowed all season, and after the tie they went back to their defensive ways.
That included their playoff run, where they won their first game of the night, battling to a 4-2 win over "Your Pitches Make My Kick Hard". In the championship they turned it up another notch, shutting out "Not Quite 70" by the ironic score of 7-0.
"Slow Baby Bouncies" is our Midtown Division champion despite a slow start to the season. Through their first five games they had just one win, but a three game winning streak at the end of the season catapulted them into third place.
After squeaking into the playoffs, "Slow Baby Bouncies" didn't have the easiest path to the championships, though they made it look easier than it should have been.
Defense was the name of the game for our eventual champs, allowing just one run total in their two playoff games. Their first game against "Superfriends" was a quality 3-0 shutout win, getting them into the finals.
And it only got easier from there, with "Slow Baby Bouncies" continuing their defensive dominance, holding the top regular season team in the league to just one run while their offense exploded for double digits. That was thanks in part to a great first couple of innings, and from there it was just cruise control. In the end, it was an 11-1 victory.
Congratulations on "Slow Baby Bouncies", who battled back after a tough start to win it all!
They say a tie is like kissing your sibling... but if your they're good-looking then maybe it's not so bad...
In this case a tie and a split championship between "Ramrods" and "We Got the Runs" in a back and forth, extra-inning game. And, despite the tie it was a great season for them both, each worthy of being called the hot sibling.
The two champions had their offenses on point all night, with "Ramrods" scoring 16 runs and "We Got the Runs" scoring 20 in each of their two games.
For the "Ramrods" it was a great underdog story, having lost 3 of their first 4 games to start the season. But, they battled back one game at a time and after a great run were able to make their way into the playoffs, and eventually the championship!
The opposite was true for "We Got the Runs", a favorite again after winning it all last season. They were on cruise control all season, finishing with a 6-2 regular season record. They did lose to "Ramrods" in the final game of the season, and maybe that nail-biting 6-5 game was a foreshadowing of things to come for the championship game.
Either way congrats to both "Ramrods" and "We Got the Runs" on successful campaigns!
"Wild Out Wednesdays" is our Midtown Division champion after a dominant championship performance! This coming despite being the 3rd seed in the playoff bracket. After a 10-6 win in the semifinals they went and played even better in the final, picking up a 12-4 win over #4 "Bengay Ballers". It was definitely a night of upsets!
It wasn't all rainbows and butterflies for "Wild Out Wednesdays" though. They started the season a bit rough, going 1-1-1 through their first three games. But, after a loss to "Tears for Beers" something clicked and they went on quite the winning streak. Five wins in all, including a 6-4 win over the best team in the regular season, "Gumby Bears".
That winning streak took them all the way to the playoffs as the third seed, but i didn't end there. Their first round win over "Tears for Beers" was payback for a loss earlier in the season, and then they took care of business against "Bengay Ballers" in the championship.

But they weren't a one-trick pony either, racking up runs game in and game out. That includes 9 runs in the most important game of the season, the championship.
In that championship game "Ball is Life" allowed a season-high 3 runs, but that was still more than enough to pull out the 9-3 win over "Fire Hazard". Their offense took care of the rest, putting up the runs to put out the flames to end "Fire Hazard's" season in convincing fashion.

Move Pitch, Get Out The Way captured their 4th league title in 5 seasons at Denny Park last night, a feat that exceeds the Golden State Warrior's 2nd title in 3 years in the NBA. Why does it exceed the Warriors? Because Move Pitch, Get Out The Way finished up their 3rd perfect season out of 5. A league title is one thing, but a perfect season? Let's see any other teams in any other leagues match that consistency and dominance.
The championship game was far from easy, as they faced RUP you up, who were averaging 9.7 runs per game entering the championship. MPGOTW scored 3 early runs, and it was all they needed as they held RUP you up at bay, winning the game 5-2. The defense really led the way, covering great range in the outfield and not letting too much go in the infield. Darrin P plays the bunt better than just about anyone in Underdog kickball, and his team needed it on Tuesday night.
Dominating defense, timely kicks with runners on base. That is how you complete your 3rd perfect season and 4th league title in 5 seasons. Well done, good luck next season!

They really showed heart and great knowledge of the game to inch back run by run rather than trying to get all their runs in a single inning. They may have struggled early to contain thier opponents but it came down to clutch defense that held their opponents scoreless for the last 3 innings to give them a chance for the comeback. First year! First championship in the books!
View I Got 99 Problems, But My Kick Ain't One Team PageThe Chupacabras were relentless. They made very few mistakes on defense but it was their offense that was the difference maker. They started to pour on runs early and it was hard for the previous champs to keep up. It was near impossible to stop the flawless bunts. There was simply no stopping the Chupacabras from claiming this year's softcore tittle. It was truely a spectacular display!
View Sparkle Mountain Chupacabras Team PageWhen The Blue Ballers showed up to the field today, they knew it would take 3 straight wins to walk away as champions. This is exactly what they did. In the quarterfinals, the took apart brews on first early and coasted to victory. Game 2 was against the undefeated and top seeded where my pitches at. It took 9 innings and some incredible defense, but they walked away victorious by a score of 3-2. In the Championship, they would play the second seeded ripcity ballerz. After a close game for 6 innings, the blue ballers broke out the legs in the top of the 7th scoring 7 runs. This would help ensure a win. They walked away with their 3rd win of the day and the \championship by a score of 12-3.
View The Blue Ballers Team PageNo music required for Kickaracha, they're playing to their own beat. Having a bye as the 1 seed, they would play back to back games with a win, to which they did.
Playing Cats for the championship La Kickaracha carried over their play and solid defense. Taming the Cats in a new field. Congrats!
Against all odds, Pitch Please made an impressive championship run to close out the league at Cascade Park! In the semi-finals, the team rallied against tough game circumstances to erase a huge 6 run deficit! The final match was even more thrilling, as Pitch Please and Looking To Score took turns leading all the way until the 7th inning. It was a masterful kickball display all around. Congratulations to Pitch Please, our league champions!

View Boots&Pants&Boots&Pants!!! Team PageField of Memes pulled off a legendary upset. They played perfectly and it rewarded them with a championship. Thanks to aggressive base running they were able to separate themselves away from the Base Gods to get a comfortable lead of 8-3. This was the first team to win a championship and ask questions about rule clarifications afterwards. But they were good questions that will most definitely help them claim another title.
View Field of Memes Team PageAlternative Kicks played a solid game. Scoring most of their runs in the first two innings, they had to rely on their stout defense to keep them ahead. And they did just that. There were little to no mistakes made by their defense and it showed in the score when they allowed only one run. It was a spectacular performance!
View Alternative Kicks Team PageAlternative kicks came ready to play for the championship game. The location change didn't seem to bother them either as they started slowly but surely on offense with two runs in the first inning. They continued adding runs in each inning with one in the second two in the third and two more in the fourth to go up 7 to nothing. The Drop Kick Murrays couldn't get it going offensively but were set up in the sixth inning to finally get on the board. WIth a speedy runner at first and a big kick to the outfield it looked like the rally would start. A big defensive play shut that down when the kicker was tagged at second before rhe runner could score. Alternative kicks would hold on to the shutout and win a well deserved championship.
View Alternative Kicks Team PageWow, this one wasn't even close. It was absolute domination on part of Hold My Kick. So many well placed kicks put them ahead early and lock down defense kept their opponents from having any chance of coming back. This was just another showing that proves Hold my Kick is a top tier team at Underdog.
View Hold My Kick Team PageThe Fresh Kicks of Ball-Air dramatically seized the Denny Park Kickball Title this Wednesday, shutting out their opponents. Through well-placed bunts that loaded baserunners for their power kickers to drive home, Fresh Kicks consistently put up offense. Defensively, they nary dropped a ball, recording some impressive long outs in the process (including a clutch, inning-ending double play assist from the outfield!). There can be no doubt as to the best team in the league, Fresh Kicks of Ball-Air. Congratulations!
View Fresh Kicks of Ball-Air Team PageThis was an intense game that went back and forth. At first it seemed that the Manhandlers had the game well in hand by going up 4 runs in the first. But then in the top of the fifth, Sweat Drops Down my Kickballs, brought it back and took the lead to make it 6-4. In response our player of the week, Andrew Donaldson, kicked a three run homer to put them up 7-6. They added a few more to runs to make it 9-6. The Manhandlers then proceeded into the 7th inning with great confidence to shut there opponents down. They gave up one run to make it 9-7 but after the score they went three up, three down. It was an amazing game!
View Manhandlers Team PageAll season long, New Kicks on the Block seemed destined for a championship. With impenetrable defense and high-powered precision kicking, they slaughtered opponents all season long. Their championship run was no different. After cruising to the #1 seed, New Kicks dismantled the upstart indy team in the semifinals, not allowing a single run.
The championship game was much closer however, as Balls Against Humanity turned in an outstanding effort on both sides of the ball. It came down to a few timely kicks and slight errors in the end, but New Kicks on the Block shined most when the lights were brightest. They made no mistakes on the night, turning in a near-flawless performance to claim their first title. Congratulations everyone!
This Championship game was a battle between the very experienced South Prop Drop and a first time contender in We Got the Runs. And it was exactly that, a battle. Both teams would go back and forth. If one team scored, so did the other. If one team went three and out so did the opposition. But the game changer came in the bottom of the sixth, with 1 out and runners on 1st and 2nd. South Prop Drop hit a line drive down the first base line to score a two run double that put them on top and that is where they would stay. An absolutely phenomenal game to finish the season!
View South Prop Drop Team Page"I'm Kick James Pitch!!" is our latest Tuesday night kickball champion, looking as dominant as ever! When the dust settled, they finished with an undefeated 10-0 record by the end of the playoffs. Overall this championship run was about as dominant as they come, with their +73 point differential essentially doubling that of anyone else in the league -- second place "Ballsagna" was a +37.
That undefeated record included two wins over their championship opponent "Ballsagna", with the final ending in a 5-0 win.
The game started as a classic defensive battle. Great fielding led to three straight scoreless innings. It quickly became clear that this game would come down to who made the first mistake. "Ballsagna" flinched first, allowing a string of base hits in the bottom of the 3rd, followed by a mishandled ground ball and an errant throw to first. I’m "Kick James Pitch" drew first blood and never looked back. When the dust had settled, "Ballsagna!!" found themselves down by 3 runs.
But the game was not without drama. "Ballsagna" managed to get runners on and into scoring position in each of the next three innings. But disciplined defense and heads up plays helped them get out of every jam.
Well-placed line drives and aggressive base running added 2 insurance runs for "I’m Kick James Pitch!!" in the bottom of the 6th. With one last chance in the top of the 7th, "Ballsagna" stepped to the plate. Playing in the third consecutive game in the early summer heat of the evening, fatigue began to show. Two quick outs and they found themselves on the ropes. One last effort, a high fly ball to deep left-center, was easily caught for the game’s final out. "I’m Kick James Pitch!!" celebrated triumphantly, then joined their opponents on the field as the two teams congratulated each other on a hard-fought championship match and a successful kickball season.
Overall "I'm Kick James Pitch!!" had allowed just five total runs, blanking opponents for the first five weeks of the season. They also picked up two wins over "Bennie and the Jets", who they defeated 11-1 in the semifinals of the playoffs and 6-0 earlier in the season.
Another awesome run by the same awesome team, and they'll be back to defend their title(s) next season as well!
"We Got the Runs" is our Wednesday Night Downtown Division Champion! A consistent contender season after season, they couldn't put it all together when the playoffs rolled around. That was until Wednesday night...
In the first round "We Got the Runs" faced the undefeated "Sweep the Leg". To say this was a tough matchup would be an understatement, with "Sweep the Leg" winning the championship in their last 3 seasons. Even more impressive, they had only lost 1 game in those last three seasons. But, "We Got the Runs" was up for the challenge, defeating the Wednesday night juggernaut 7-4 in an incredible upset as the #4 seed in the bracket.
And, as incredible as that win was, it wasn't even for the championship. For that "We Got the Runs" faced off against "Friendship to Friendship", another consistently good team season after season.
In that championship game "We Got the Runs" got back to what they are good at; timely runs and great defense. They'd been doing it all season finishing with a +22 run differential, good second in the league. In the final they allowed just one run throughout the game, and picked up 4 runs to seal the deal.
Congratulations to "We Got the Runs" on a fantastic playoff night to cap off their season, a much deserved win!
"Team B" is our Midtown Division champion after a strong showing the championship game. Despite their tough competition, "Team B" obliterated "Just the Kick" by 10 runs in the final, putting the league on notice and letting everyone know why they deserved to be the champion.
Oddly enough, their first round opponent "Kick It and Quit It" was the one who gave up more of a fight. Unlike the final, "Team B" was locked in a pitcher's duel where they were only able to score three runs. But, their defense pulled through and allowed just one run, seeing them through to the final.
They saved the best for last, and In the final "Team B" was able to get their offense going in a big way, picking up 16 runs and blowing out a formidable opponent. It was by far their largest offensive output of the season, but one that was perfectly timed for the championship. Congratulations to them on a successful kickball season!
“Ball is Life” capped off their undefeated season in dramatic fashion with a walk-off win in the championship match!
Winning their final regular season game by 10 runs, and strolling into the finals after a semi-final victory, “Ball is Life” felt confident and well-rested. Meanwhile “The One Kick Wonders” hoped to ride the momentum from their one-run victory in the semis to championship glory in their third game in less than 2 hours.
The championship match was exciting right out of the gate. "The One Kick Wonders" got on the board first with one run in the top of the 1st inning, only to give up one run in the bottom of the inning. After the 2nd inning, the game sat tied at 2 runs apiece. Relying on well-placed ground balls and aggressive base running, "The One Kick Wonders" took command of the game, plating 2 runs in the top of the third. It seemed that they had all the balls bouncing their way.
"Ball Is Life" found their defensive rhythm, holding "The One Kick Wonders" scoreless over the next 4 innings, and tying the game in the bottom of the 5th with a 2 run double.
Tied at 4 after 7 innings, the game headed into the last inning of regulation. "The One Kick Wonders" broke the game wide open, stringing together infield hits and heads up base running to take a 3 run lead. They were 3 outs away from spoiling an undefeated season for "Ball is Life", and claiming championship glory.
"Ball is Life" bounced back from their disappointment quickly, getting hit after hit to put runners on base and bring them home. With each run, their hope grew, and fatigue was starting to set in for "The One Kick Wonders". With 1 out and runners at the corners, a well-placed sacrifice bunt brought in the tying run, with the game-winning run waiting on second. A booming shot deep to right center fell in for a double, driving in the championship run in dramatic fashion.
After a raucous celebration (and obligatory team photo), the two teams congratulated each other on a hard-fought championship match and a successful kickball season. "Ball is Life" are not resting on their laurels, however, they will return next season to attempt to continue their winning streak and defend their championship.
